Basketball Then Cancun

After I play in my basketball game tomorrow night, I will be heading to the airport for Cancun, Mexico. It will be my furthest descent south that I have ever been. I acknowledge that Cancun, in reputation, doesn't represent a serious departure from the territories that I'm used to. It is supposed to be rather safe for tourists and the most commercialized destination in Mexico. I'll have to judge later how this new territory differs for me from my travels within the States. I doubt that my inability to speak with a spanish tongue will matter mucho.

It's Fantastic

There isn't enough said in my small circle concerning the quality of film scores. Many I know disregard this music because it lacks lyrics and because it is to 'simple.' Well I say bah humbug to that. Since a musicians education has eluded me for all of these years, I am unequipped to argue the technical merits of a film score in comparison to any other type of music. All I can say is that film music has and maintains the ability to draw out all kinds of emotion as successfully as any other type of music and that is a shame to dismiss that kind of power as being simply to simple due to the material's source.

Movie music- it's fantastic!

Comparative Acting Skills

World Trade Center opened today. There was a review in the Guardian which was really funny in its trashing of the acting. Making a comparison, the author recalled an urban legend about the actress, Pia Zadora, "who is so awful in a theatrical production of The Diary of Ann Frank that during the second act, as the Nazis are searching the house, somebody in the audience calls out, 'They're in the attic!'" I'm not sure how bad it really is, but the Guardian author says that Nicolas Cage approaches that type of performance in WTC. I'll see for myself and will refrain from any WTC jokes at this time.

Everything in Moderation

We had another nice night of basketball at the Hebrew school. 16 or 17 people showed up to shoot the sh..I mean to shoot the ball. It's too bad that we can't arrange this more frequently, but what's the saying, everything in moderation? Nah, when it's good I think we should run with it.

I've Got It

It has been sometime since I last wrote because of my darn computer contracting some sort of unknown illness that it may not recover from. It is a bummer, but that's life, right?

I was listening to Vince Scully announce the Dodgers game tonight. After a foul ball was caught by the Dodger catcher who was screaming, "I got it, I got it," Scully relayed a personal baseball incident from his college days.

"After the coach heard one our players shout out, 'I got it,' while the player was trying to catch a ball, he said to the team afterwards, 'Listen, it's not I've got it, it's I have it. Let's not forget that we represent higher education.' "

Scully, always a treat.
